Undergraduate Studies in Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics applies the latest ideas of computer science to the wealth of new biological data to solve important biological problems, study the interactions of small molecules with biological receptors, and search for novel therapies for disease. The Faculties of Mathematics and Science jointly prepare students with a sophisticated understanding of the problem domain in biology and appropriate analytical skills in computer science. After second year you can choose to focus on either the computer science aspect (leading to a BCS) or the biological aspect (leading to a Bachelor of Science).

The undergraduate bioinformatics program at Waterloo is available as a part of 4-stream co-op program in both School of Computer Science and Faculty of Science. The following links contain information about current offerings.
